Chéile Wellbeing perinatal mental health support: a mother's hands cradling her newborn baby's feet

Becoming a mother can be a huge adjustment, and sometimes the reality of pregnancy, new motherhood or life with a baby can feel very different from what you expected. Chéile Wellbeing provides specialist perinatal mental health support for mothers during pregnancy and throughout the postpartum period.

Does this sound familiar?

Your mental wellbeing can be affected by changes in your identity, relationships, routines, sleep, energy and sense of self, and it can be difficult to know where to turn for support.

  • Struggling to care for your baby while trying to look after yourself
  • Finding it difficult to sleep or establish a routine
  • Feeling anxious or overwhelmed, and wondering how to find a sense of balance again
  • Missing your old identity
  • Finding motherhood different from how you imagined it
  • Feeling guilty that you are not enjoying this stage as much as you thought you would
  • Simply not feeling like yourself, or finding the transition to motherhood harder than expected

You do not need a formal diagnosis to access support.

Talk it through

Practical support for everyday life with a baby

Chéile Wellbeing provides personalised perinatal mental health occupational therapy support using evidence-based strategies, with a focus on practical approaches that can make everyday life feel more manageable and sustainable.

Together, we can work on:

  • Creating supportive routines
  • Managing your energy and sleep
  • Developing coping skills
  • Reducing anxiety and stress
  • Preventing overwhelm and burnout
  • Adapting feeding and soothing routines
  • Navigating identity and role changes
  • Creating rhythms that reduce stress
  • Making space for your own needs alongside the demands of motherhood
  • Reconnecting with meaningful, fulfilling activities that nurture your sense of self

The aim is to help you develop sustainable habits and routines that support your mental health and wellbeing, promote lifestyle balance, and help you feel more confident and supported as you navigate the changing demands of motherhood.

Support doesn't have to stop at your six-week check

I meet you where you are with compassionate, person-centred support. My role is to help you understand what you need, identify what is getting in the way and find practical strategies that support your wellbeing, so that you can feel more balanced, connected and like yourself again during this transformative stage of life.

  • Held, not hurried

A calm, consistent space where you can be honest about how things really are.

  • Good enough is enough

No perfect parent exists. We let go of the pressure and the guilt, together.

  • You and baby, together

Support that holds your relationship with your baby, not just you on your own.

  • Small steps, real life

Realistic changes that work on little sleep, built on what is already going well.

Things people often ask

If your question isn't here, send a short email and Laura will get back to you.

Do I need a referral or a diagnosis?

No. You can self-refer, and you do not need a formal diagnosis to access support. Whether you are looking for support with postnatal depression, postpartum anxiety, perinatal OCD or pregnancy-related anxiety, or simply finding motherhood difficult, I meet you where you are.

Can I get support during pregnancy, or only after my baby arrives?

Both. Chéile Wellbeing provides specialist perinatal mental health support for mothers during pregnancy and throughout the postpartum period.

Is it too late if my baby is older?

No. Perinatal support covers pregnancy and the first years of parenthood, and support is available whenever you feel you need it.

Are sessions online or in person?

Sessions are typically delivered online, so you can attend from anywhere in Ireland. In-person sessions can be provided in Tuam, Co. Galway, upon request.

How is OT different from counselling?

Counselling focuses mainly on talking through thoughts and feelings. OT focuses on how your mental health is affecting your everyday life, and works with you on practical strategies for routine, self-care, work and parenting. It can often complement psychological therapy, helping you translate the insights gained through therapy into practical changes in your everyday life.

How much does it cost?

Sessions are €110 per one-hour session, weekly or fortnightly. For more structured support there is the Wellbeing Foundations Package (4 online sessions for €400) and the Guided Support Package (6 online sessions for €600).

Can I claim on my health insurance?

Chéile Wellbeing's mental health occupational therapy service is delivered by a CORU-registered occupational therapist and is recognised by a number of private health insurance providers in Ireland, so you may be able to claim back some of the cost of your sessions. We recommend checking your individual policy for details of your occupational therapy cover.

What happens in the first session?

We talk about what's going on for you, your daily routine and what you'd like to feel different. There's no pressure to share more than you want to.
